Hemianopia robs its victims of quality of life. Most people with hemianopia are afraid of leaving the house and entering unfamiliar environments, especially crowded places. They fear tripping, falling or bumping into other people and objects, causing injury and embarrassment. They lose social contact and independence.
The pages in this section of the web site are devoted to sharing knowledge about optical solutions for people with hemianopia, their caregivers, relatives and professionals who serve them. We feel the best help for hemianopia is in the optical field but most professionals who serve the hemianopic population are outside of this field and are therefore unaware of these possible solutions. This web site is also a learning resource for these professionals.
A person with hemianopia lives with the condition daily and is in a perfect position to educate themselves on possible solutions available. We hope to provide enough information to empower hemianopic people to seek care where they would not traditionally look and to provide them with enough information to distinguish between treatment alternatives and to select the best option for themselves. |
